Scholarships and Bursaries
Sister Mary Brennan Scholarships of Excellence
Sister Mary Brennan was recognized for her scholarship and leadership. She was the first student of Stuartholme School to receive a prize for excellence. In 1951 Mary entered the Society of the Sacred Heart and was appointed as Provincial Superior in 1987, dedicating her life to the education of young woman. In 1955 she returned to Stuartholme to teach. Her professional career spanned both the school and University sectors demonstrating her love of learning.
Stuartholme School offers the following Sister Mary Brennan Scholarships of Excellence in academic studies:
- for commencing or continuing entry to Years 8, 9, 10
- for commencing or continuing entry to Year 11
These scholarships provide remission of 50 per cent of tuition fees and are reviewed annually according to the criteria. The award of scholarships is based on the ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) Scholarship Test results. Applications for Scholarships for 2015 entry will open September/October 2014.
Scholarship-holders are expected to maintain high standards of academic excellence, to participate positively in the co-curricula program and to support the Goals of Sacred Heart Education. These scholarships do not cover Boarding expenses.
Sharon Beirne Memorial Scholarship
The Sharon Beirne Memorial Scholarship, established by the late John Brewer in honour of the character of his wife who had a vigorous and passionate embrace of life, a love of people and justice, and always a great sense of humour. This scholarship offers remission of 50 per cent of tuition fees and is for continuing Year 10 girls in their final two years of schooling at the School.
The Nora Leyne Bursary
The Nora Leyne Bursary is for commencing entry, equivalent to remission of 50 per cent of tuition fees. This Bursary is only available to members of Stuartholme alumnae who require financial assistance in order to send their daughters to the School. Applications for the Nora Leyne Bursary should be made at the time of enrolment.
Moreen Acton Bursary
Moreen Acton attended Stuartholme School from 1924-1928, becoming Head of the School in her final year. A loyal member of the Alumnae she eventually became President and was responsible for the establishment of the Nora Leyne Bursary. Her continued confidence in the value of a Sacred Heart Education is illustrated by her legacy of a Bursary like this. This Bursary provides remission of 50 per cent of tuition fees and is for continuing Year 10 Boarders in their final two years of schooling.
